The Ella Awards, Unbreakable: Solidarity in Action

The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights will host the 2012 Ella Awards, Unbreakable: Solidarity in Action on Thursday, September 13, 2012. 6:00 - 9:00 PM, at the Scottish Rite Center (1547 Lakeside Drive, Oakland.) The event features food, music, and high-profile special guests from throughout the state of California.
The social justice institution will honor three social justice innovators:
Father Greg Boyle created Homeboy Industries, Inc. to serve at-risk youth through services, programs, and employment opportunities. Rinku Sen of Applied Research Council is a leading figure in the racial justice movement, who combines journalism with activism to make social change. Mujeres Unidas y Activas has helped hundreds of women become strong leaders, get out of domestic violence situations, and has taken an active role in the movement for immigrant’s rights and social and economic justice.
Come early for an intimate discussion with Co-Founder Van Jones at a special private reception. Only a limited number of tickets are available for this part of the event beginning at 5:15PM. Tickets for this special event will include a signed copy of his latest book, Rebuild the Dream, as well as admission to the 2012 Ella Awards.
