How Do I Get A Picture Or Graphic Next To My Name

Q. How do I get a picture or graphic next to my name?

A. First, you need to select a picture (please use a photo of yourself rather than a graphic, if at all possible). If you have a digital image with your head in it somewhere, that's ideal. Try to crop the picture so that your face fills as much of the image as possible, so that when it is made very small, you will be able to recognize yourself.

Save the file at no larger than 200 x 200 pixels, as a gif or jpeg (jpg) file. If you don't know how to do this, check to see if there is a Photo Help Group in your community. If not, you can ask one of your colleagues, your children, or an email friend. If all else fails, contact your administrator. Remember where you saved the file on your computer (the directory and file name).

Then click on My Profile, My Page, or Tell us about yourself and then on Upload new photo. You can then browse around your computer to find your photo and upload it. You will see your very own face on our page! You can always change photos if you decide you don't like the first one you chose. The option appears right under your picture on the Edit My Profile page as well as in the yellow highlighted links in the left column of that page.

Why Post a Photo?

Why did we ask you above to post a photo rather than some amusing graphic? Learning research has shown that humans learn names better and enjoy talking with people when we can picture their faces. It helps us remember that the person we are typing to is a mother and Leader, like ourselves. So, unless you want other Members to imagine you as a flower pot or a sunrise (or whatever), please use a real photograph of yourself. We'll be happy to help you with it, if you need help.
